forge something worthy of living for Written with wry humor, tragedy turns out to be something different than tragic I thought this book was going to be humorous but it was not Robbing a bank was a very small part of this story The real story is about child abuse and the horrible effects it had on this woman throughout her life My heart went out to her It is also about dedicating your life to rescuing animals Dawn took her pain and experiences and put her love and energy into the love of dogs God bless you Dawn for your love and work with animals It is so needed in the world today It was a good story to I thought this book was going to be humorous but it was not Robbing a bank was a very small part of this story The real story is about child abuse and the horrible effects it had on this woman throughout her life My heart went out to her It is also about dedicating your life to rescuing animals Dawn took her pain and experiences and put her love and energy into the love of dogs God bless you Dawn for your love and work with animals It is so needed in the world today It was a good story told honestly and right from the hip.I received this book through a GoodReads drawing Glad I than I thought possible How does one person be chased by their mom with an ax, work as a camel tender, work in a mannequin factory, save rescue dogs, battle addiction and that s not even getting to the bank robbery bit yet I enjoyed Dawn s writing a lot and there were absolutely fascinating st I was given this book through a Goodreads giveaway and I was delighted to win it.I will start by saying there is a LOT to love about this book This is someone who has gone throughin their life than I thought possible How does one person be chased by their mom with an ax, work as a camel tender, work in a mannequin factory, save rescue dogs, battle addiction and that s not even getting to the bank robbery bit yet I enjoyed Dawn s writing a lot and there were absolutely fascinating stories.That being said, I think this book could have done with a better editor Not for grammar and spelling but for the layout of the book, the cover and even the title I think the cover is doing this book a disservice Mixed with the title, it makes the book seem campy and fun In reality, it s a dark, dark story One I m thankful for but not the story that the title and cover would suggest I also feel like I had to work for these fascinating parts that should have been played upThe book was pretty long and there were parts that could have been slimmed down and other parts that could have been pumped up Really compelling memoir that explores the ripple effects of trauma and how we can fight to make better lives for ourselves Lawson writes with an earnestness that keeps the reader drawn in you laugh and cry with her as she writes about some of the best and hardest moments of her life Her introspection is equal parts witty and insightful, a true hallmark of a good memoir I really appreciated reading about her journey through dog rescue as a way to ground herself as someone who also rescues an Really compelling memoir that explores the ripple effects of trauma and how we can fight to make better lives for ourselves Lawson writes with an earnestness that keeps the reader drawn in you laugh and cry with her as she writes about some of the best and hardest moments of her life Her introspection is equal parts witty and insightful, a true hallmark of a good memoir I really appreciated reading about her journey through dog rescue as a way to ground herself as someone who also rescues animals mostly cats Lawson s voice really comes through here and it was a thoroughly enjoyed reading it The premise of this book was interesting and promising how the author went from an abusive background to alcohol drug addiction to finally getting back on her feet In reality, the book was a mess The timeline jumped around erratically, often without giving the reader enough background on the new people introduced and resulting in the feeling that you somehow didn t read a chapter It was also extremely repetitive A judicial editing would make the story clearly andimpactful instead it The premise of this book was interesting and promising how the author went from an abusive background to alcohol drug addiction to finally getting back on her feet In reality, the book was a mess The timeline jumped around erratically, often without giving the reader enough background on the new people introduced and resulting in the feeling that you somehow didn t read a chapter It was also extremely repetitive A judicial editing would make the story clearly andimpactful instead it often felt like the reader was being lectured at repeatedly I loved this book I laughed and cried and felt incredibly moved by both Dawn s plight and her great humour and resilience She did rob a bank, but she did so muchShe gave so much to all those who loved her and saved, as she continues to do, dogs, cats and the most challenging of all the people in her life Dawn s life affirming story grips you from page 1 Thank you Dawn for your honesty, bravery and sheer balls
